Courage begins by understanding what is, and seeing what could be.
Why is courage something that has been praised throughout all of history? I would argue that it is because someone not only saw what was, but saw what could be, AND took the first step towards that.
Courage is often described as "the absence of fear" but I believe that Courage is the overcoming of fear, or the operation of faith despite fear. There is no magical "off-switch" to fear. In fact, John Wayne said that "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway." Fear doesn't go away so that we can be courageous. Rather, we choose to walk in courage despite the fear that has been pressed upon us. We do not allow fear to paralyze us. We choose to walk in courage because we believe that God has called us to and will hold true on His promise to be with us every step of the way.
It won't be easy, but we are called to live for so much more than comfort. Courage stands out throughout history because few are willing to take the first step!
My challenge to you is simple: Take the first step.
God's promise is this: He will be with you.
Be courageous,
Josh Lane
